Introduction
One of the ways Genius CE & Enterprise helps you manage your learning initiative is by helping you limit access to enrollments based on Affiliations and URL flexibility.
Restricting Access to a Section by Affiliation
When you assign a section to an affiliation, only learners from that affiliation can be enrolled in it.
To do this, click on the Sections tab, and then find the section you want to work on in the Active Sections list that appears after you click that tab. Click on the section you want to edit, and then click the Edit Information menu item in the sidebar to the right-hand side of your screen.
When you access Edit Information, the following screen should appear:
To restrict access to a course based on an Affiliation, you can use the Affiliation drop-down menu in the Edit Information page.
PLEASE NOTE: Affiliations are nested. If you select the topmost Affiliation in a group under the Affiliation selection, all Learners who belong to that Affiliation’s Sub-Affiliations will have access to the section. If you select the last Affiliation in the group, only the learners that belong to that Affiliation will have access to the course.
If you want any learner from any affiliation to have access to that Section, then the entry under Affiliation should be assigned to “Any”.
What about the Course Catalog?
If a section is available in the Course Catalog and you restrict it to be available to learners with a specific Affiliation, then only those Learners will see that Section in their version of the Course Catalog.
This is key in using Affiliations to tailor the way your Course Catalog is displayed, ensuring that you can still use a self-service registration model even when you are offering learning opportunities that are exclusive to a smaller ‘subset’ of learners within your learning initiative.
While each affiliation has a specific set of links generated for the course catalog and log-in/sign-up pages, there is even more flexibility now in creating specific URLs.
Below is an example of what can be used and how to construct these URLs. Certain items can be combined while others may allow one filter.
