Introduction
Establishing a subscription model is an excellent strategy for providing learners with varied access to your course offerings. In this guide, you will learn about the two distinct types of subscriptions available and the steps required to set them up effectively.
Subscriptions
To facilitate the sale of subscriptions to individual learners or entire organizations, we have integrated a feature within Genius CE & Enterprise that allows for the purchase of subscription packages. You have the flexibility to create as many different subscription options as you wish, tailoring them to meet the diverse needs of your learners.
The subscriptions are categorized into two types: “FULL_ACCESS” and “SYSTEM_ACCESS”.
- A FULL_ACCESS subscription grants learners complete access to the learner dashboard. This means they can enroll in all courses available on the platform, regardless of their price, throughout the subscription.
- On the other hand, a SYSTEM_ACCESS subscription allows learners to access the learner dashboard and enroll in free courses only. For any course that requires payment, learners will be responsible for covering the cost themselves during the subscription period.
There is also a field named Expiration Renewal Warning. This field will allow you to choose a number that will then become the number of days before a learner's subscription expires. In those days before the learner's subscription expires, they will receive a message in the UI letting them know they need to purchase another subscription soon.
A new feature, ENABLE_SUBSCRIPTION, has been introduced, represented by a binary parameter (1 for true, 0 for false). This feature allows you to toggle the subscription capability on or off for all learners. Once you enable subscriptions, it is essential to update the affiliation settings to ensure that subscriptions function properly.
- The bulk actions feature is designed to assist administrators or managers in easily identifying and enrolling groups of learners into a subscription, streamlining the process significantly.
- Additionally, new reports labeled "Subscription Status" and "Subscription History" can now be found under the "Reports" tab. These reports enable you to quickly identify which subscriptions are currently active and which have expired. You can also monitor subscriptions that are approaching their expiration date within a specified number of days. Furthermore, the reports provide a comprehensive history of all subscriptions purchased over time, allowing for thorough tracking and management.
Coupons
Coupons are special codes generated by an administrator that can be used to reduce the price of course offerings by a specified dollar amount or percentage. Initially, these coupons were limited to system-wide use; however, you now have the option to create coupons that are valid for specific sections, learning paths, or affiliations.
- To create and manage coupons, navigate to Administration> System Setup> Coupons. Within this section, you can set various parameters for your coupons, including:
- A coupon cap, which tracks how many times a coupon can be used, ensuring that it is only redeemable a limited number of times.
- The ability to restrict coupons to specific sections, learning paths, and affiliations enables targeted promotions.
- The “Available Coupons” report, located under the Reports section, provides insights into how often each coupon has been used. It tracks the coupon cap and shows the remaining number of coupons that are still available for use. Additionally, this report indicates the level of the coupon and highlights any objects that are associated with a particular coupon code.
Coupon Name Uniqueness
When creating coupon names, it is crucial to remember that each name must be unique within its respective section. This means that a coupon name cannot be used in multiple sections simultaneously. This requirement is essential for ensuring accurate tracking and application of the coupons throughout the system.
If you attempt to create a coupon with a name that already exists in the same section, the coupon will not function correctly. To prevent any issues, please ensure that all coupon names are distinct and specifically tailored to their respective sections.
