The Genius CE & Enterprise Glossary
Administrator: An Administrator is the individual responsible for overseeing the Genius CE or Enterprise instance within an organization. This role is crucial as Administrators possess the authority to create and manage various elements within the system, including users, courses, sections, affiliations, and enrollments, among other functions. Typically, only one to two individuals in an organization are granted Administrator privileges, highlighting the importance and responsibility that comes with this role in managing the Genius platform effectively.
Affiliation: In the context of Genius CE & Enterprise, an Affiliation serves as a method to categorize users through a hierarchical, tree-like structure. This classification is primarily utilized to reflect the reporting relationships within an organization. However, the versatility of Affiliations allows organizations to customize user classification according to their specific needs and preferences, making it a flexible tool for managing user relationships and roles within the learning environment.
Agreements: [Financial] Agreements help Administrators manage and track funding from external partners, such as businesses, scholarship programs, or other sponsors, who cover course costs for Learners. Administrators can define payment terms, set funding limits, and manage eligibility requirements to administer third-party funding.
Certificate: A certificate is a formal document that serves as proof of successful completion of a course or learning pathway. In Genius CE & Enterprise, learners can obtain their certificates by navigating to the Completed Courses section of their Dashboard. This feature not only provides recognition of achievement but also serves as an essential record for learners as they progress in their educational or professional development.
Completion: When a learner enrolls in a course within Genius, the course can be in one of three statuses: Not Started, In Progress, or Completed. It is essential to configure a specific column in your Learning Management System (LMS) to indicate that a course has been completed; this setup ensures that the completion status is accurately reported back to Genius. This tracking mechanism is vital for maintaining accurate records of learner progress and course completion.
Course: A Course in Genius is defined as a data structure that acts as a template for grouping multiple Sections. For instance, a course might be titled "Introduction to Accounting." While high-level properties can be defined for the course, learners can engage with the material through the creation of sections. Each section represents a specific instance where learners can engage with the course content, enabling a structured approach to education.
Dashboards: Dashboards in Genius provide visual representations of progress, performance, and engagement metrics for individual users or groups of users. For example, the Learner's Dashboard offers graphs and other visual tools to display the progress and engagement of that specific learner. In contrast, the Manager's or Affiliation Dashboard presents information regarding all learners under a particular manager's supervision. Additionally, the Administrator's Dashboard aggregates data across the entire learning initiative, offering a comprehensive overview. Administrators and users can customize these dashboards as needed, enhancing the user experience and data accessibility.
Genius CE & Enterprise: The terms Genius CE and Enterprise refer to our cutting-edge Enterprise Software as a Service (SaaS) products. These offerings are designed to be the latest in technology, featuring regular updates and new releases that continually improve the user experience and functionality of the software. This commitment to innovation ensures that organizations using Genius CE & Enterprise have access to the most effective tools for their learning initiatives.
Instructor: An Instructor is a user designated to oversee the management of a course. While courses typically have an instructor assigned, it is essential to note that this does not necessarily mean the instructor will deliver the course content directly. In online learning environments, for example, instructors often serve as the primary point of contact for learners who encounter challenges or have questions related to the learning initiative, facilitating a supportive learning experience.
Learner: A learner is an individual who registers for and completes courses within the Genius platform. While the term "student" may come to mind, it is essential to recognize that learners often engage in training or professional development programs rather than traditional academic courses. This distinction highlights the diverse range of educational opportunities available through Genius, catering to various learning needs and career aspirations.
Learning Path: A Learning Path within Genius CE & Enterprise is a curated collection of courses that are organized into a cohesive program or curriculum. When learners complete a Learning Path, they may be awarded a certificate of completion, signifying their achievement. Learning Paths can contain both mandatory and optional courses, and the platform can enforce a specific order for course completion, ensuring that learners progress through the material in a structured manner.
Ledger: The Ledger is a crucial component of Genius CE & Enterprise, as it tracks the financial aspects of your learning initiative. The platform allows organizations to monetize their courses, transforming learning into a potential revenue stream. The Ledger meticulously records all debits and credits associated with the learning initiative, providing a clear overview of the financial transactions and how each course was funded, which is essential for financial management and reporting.
Manager: Affiliations enable organizations to replicate their internal hierarchy within Genius CE & Enterprise. Once an Affiliations structure is established, users can be promoted to Manager roles within the learning initiative. Managers have access to insights regarding the progress, performance, and engagement of all learners categorized under their respective Affiliation. Their user interface is designed to be similar to that of Administrators, which provides them with the tools necessary to monitor and support learners effectively. Multiple Managers can be assigned to an Affiliation, allowing for the delegation of administrative tasks and fostering a collaborative management approach.
Reports: Reports generated within Genius CE & Enterprise consist of structured and filtered data extracted from the database, providing stakeholders with valuable insights for informed decision-making. The platform features over 50 built-in reports, allowing users to filter these reports or create custom reports tailored to their specific needs. This flexibility in reporting empowers organizations to analyze their learning initiatives comprehensively and make data-driven decisions.
Section: A Section in Genius CE & Enterprise represents a specific instance of a course. As detailed in the Terms, Courses, and Sections article within the Knowledge Base, Courses are considered 'abstract' data structures. In contrast, Sections are the tangible instances that learners enroll in and complete. Sections are often linked to a particular term, allowing organizations to offer multiple instances of the same course throughout the calendar year or even run parallel sections of the same course simultaneously, enhancing accessibility for learners.
Status: In Genius CE and Enterprise, a user's status can be classified as either Active or Archived. An active user has full access to log into Genius CE or Enterprise and utilize the platform as intended. Conversely, an archived user's account is temporarily inactive and can only be reactivated by an Administrator. This status management is crucial for maintaining accurate user records and ensuring that only eligible users can access the system.
Transcript: A Transcript serves as a comprehensive record of all the courses a Learner has completed within your organization's learning initiative. Transcripts in Genius CE and Enterprise include a detailed listing of completed courses, along with a summary of the grades earned in each course. Learners can easily access their Transcripts by clicking on the name of a completed course in the Completed Courses section of their Dashboard. For assistance with a customized transcript, please contact support or your implementation manager at Genius.
