Genius Branding Guide
The Genius/Registration system offers various branding options tailored for your organization. Many of these options can be customized by the client and can be easily updated through the menu path Administration > System Setup > Themes. The client must provide all images, color codes, and font guidelines to ensure a cohesive branding experience.
The following areas are available for branding:
Site URL
By default, all sites are created under the ‘geniussis.com’ domain, such as yoursite.geniussis.com. If desired, a custom vanity name can be applied to mask the URL with a preferred one, enhancing the branding experience.
- Your organization must own the URL that you wish to apply.
- The URL cannot currently be in use by another entity.
Implementing this change will require IT support from the client’s side, which includes updating the DNS settings and SSL certificates to ensure the login URL and the entire site operate over HTTPS.
- If you are satisfied with the geniussis.com domain for your URL, you don't need to make any changes. Genius will automatically apply the SSL certificate to both the production and test environments to maintain your HTTPS link.
Themes
To customize the user experience for SIGN-IN, COURSE CATALOG, and REGISTRATION, navigate to the Administration tab > System Setup > Themes. The colors that can be adjusted include:

PLEASE NOTE:
- Each section expands to accommodate color changes and image updates within the system.
- An admin can view all the themes created on the site and set a global theme for all users.
- Themes can be assigned to specific Affiliations to allow for branding tailored to different divisions or organizations.
Learner’s Dashboard
This is the standard appearance that learners will see upon logging in.
Common elements that are typically branded and customized include:
- Logo displayed on the Learner’s Dashboard
- Color schemes and overall branding
- The left menu structure
Certificates
The system is capable of generating certificates at multiple levels, including for individual courses, sections, and learning paths (which are collections of courses). Each level can feature the same certificate or different ones as needed. Genius facilitates the issuance of formal PDF versions of both certificates and transcripts, which serve as official proof of the completion of learning activities.
Below is an example of the default certificate generated by the system:
- To create your certificates, clients need to utilize PDF Form creation software, such as Adobe.
- With a PDF Form creation tool, Genius will populate the Form Fields to generate a certificate. The Form Fields must be spelled correctly so that Genius can accurately substitute them with the correct values. (In Adobe: All Tools > Prepare a form > Add text field > double click on text field > add variable name).
- Any fields present in your ENROLLMENTS email templates can be populated in Certificates and Transcripts. To find them, navigate to Admin > System Setup > Default Templates > Add or edit a template specifically for ENROLLMENTS. From there, select the variable dropdown. Any of those variables can be used without the brackets “[ ]”
OTHER Form fields that Genius can populate include:
| Field Name | Content |
| Name | Learner Name (First Last) |
| Section | Name of the Course |
| Date | Completion Date |
| Details | Course notes |
| EnrollmentID | Enrollment ID |
Transcripts
The system interface includes the capability to view and download learning records (training history) in the form of a transcript. This feature is now configurable, similar to certificates, with form variables available under Admin > System Setup > Transcripts.
A default transcript includes the following elements:
- Border, background, or logo
- Learner's name
- Learner’s internal ID (not the assigned ID number)
- Date generated
- Term (if applicable)
- Completed courses
- Completion date
- Grade, completion status, competencies
- Credit hours
Below is the default view of a transcript (FRX file):
Course Catalog
The Course Catalog provides a comprehensive view of all course offerings. It can be made public for anyone to access or kept private for users with existing accounts in your Genius instance.
-
Catalogs can be customized further based on the learner’s affiliation.
- Every affiliation is now customizable, allowing for tailored views of the sign-in page, registration page, color schemes, and course catalog for each learner.
Course cards can include the following information:
- Course image (Recommended size is no larger than 1 MB)
- Cost (if applicable)
- Course name
- Type (online, hybrid, face-to-face)
- Start date
- Available seats
- Short description
- Meeting Times
- Register (add to cart) button
- Instructor(s) names
Additional options for populating course information include:
- Long description
- Department
- Keywords
- Cost
- Location
- Information about prerequisites
- Rprerequisitesurses
- Pre-requisites
- Prerequisites(if the offering is part of a learning path)
Email Templates
Email templates can be modified to enhance the user experience by navigating to Admin > System Setup > Default Templates.
- It is worth noting that customization is now feasible at a specific level for individual Affiliations, Courses, and Sections as well. If you see “TEMPLATES” in the left menu of any of those sections, you can edit the emails there.
- A screenshot illustrating this functionality on an Affiliation’s page is provided below.
- Email Body (Templates) - If branding is required for email templates, it is possible to use HTML code or add a logo.
Genius SIS can provide a basic HTML template:
- The sender of the email. By default, all automated communications originate from a generic "no-reply" email address: support@geniuslearning.com.
- At times, email servers may block unknown senders, causing communications to be directed to junk mail, spam folders, or blocked at the IT level.
- To prevent this, a dedicated email address can be set up in the Administration area under Parameters > SUPPORT_EMAIL.
- DO NOT CHANGE THE SMTP_GLOBAL_FROM_ADDRESS. Any changes to this would need to be discussed with your Genius support contact.
Examples of dedicated email addresses include no-reply@company.com and compliance@company.com.
To edit the CATALOG, please refer to the Admin Menu tab: Learner View.
This section contains configurations for how learners view their dashboard and the course catalog.
